PwC Houston Donates a Total of $75,000 to Four Houston-based Non-Profit Organizations

HOUSTON, Jan. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- PwC US today announced that its Houston office will donate a total of $75,000 to four Houston-based non-profit organizations, funded through grants from the PwC Charitable Foundation.

Grants were awarded to the following local organizations:

• First Tee of Greater Houston– A non-profit organization committed to youth development programs that use golf as a platform to teach life skills and character development. 
• Dress for Success Houston– A non-profit organization aimed at promoting the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
• Houston Food Bank– A non-profit organization dedicated to large-scale distribution of food and other select products to hunger-relief agencies that then provide direct aid to those in need.
• The Periwinkle Foundation– A non-profit organization targeted at developing and providing programs that positively change the lives of children, young adults and families who are challenged by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and are cared for at Texas Children's Hospital. 

Additionally, on November 15^th, approximately 150 PwC employees volunteered with the Houston Food Bank in connection with the celebration of the 75 year anniversary of PwC's presence in Houston. The 150 volunteers from the local PwC Houston office worked together on the "carousel project," which involves sorting and inspecting incoming food donations. PwC volunteers checked food items for expiration and damage, as well as signs of tampering. PwC Houston volunteers helped provide 129,698 meals in one day.
