PwC US banks on today's Youth for our Economic Future

BOSTON, June 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, partners and staff in the Boston office of PwC US will take over a total of 150 elementary, middle school and high school classrooms, teaching financial literacy to more than 4,000 Boston-area students.

The group of nearly 700 PwC professionals will leverage the firm's financial literacy curriculum to lead discussions on saving, investing, income, careers, resume writing and preparing for college. The curriculum was developed as part of PwC's Earn Your Future commitment, a multi-year, $160mm commitment--comprising cash donations and service hours--to address youth education with a focus on financial literacy.

"This particular effort is part of ongoing work we are doing in classrooms throughout the year to provide our local youth with tools they need to succeed."

Back at PwC's Boston office, an additional 600 PwC employees will work on projects supporting local youth-focused nonprofits. Activities will include assembling over 2,000 backpacks for the fall, sorting clothing and toy donations, and creating activity books for local hospitals. The day also serves as a celebration for the more than 450 Boston employees who received promotions.

Schools where PwC professionals will be teaching financial literacy include: Boston Renaissance Charter Public School, Eliot K-8 Innovation School, Josiah Quincy School, Mather Elementary, Ohrenberger School, Richard J. Murphy K-8 School, Tobin Elementary, West Roxbury Academy, Winship Elementary, Brookline High, Connery Elementary, Susan B Anthony Middle School, and Whelan Elementary School. Each school was also eligible to receive a $2,000 DonorsChoose.org grant from PwC to support various needs including everything from investing in new technology to purchasing new books for the school library.

In its first year, PwC's Earn Your Future commitment impacted 500,000 youth and 18,000 educators, and partners and staff contributed 150,000 volunteer service hours to youth education and development across the US.
