RadioShack Joins Awareness Campaign for LIVESTRONG Day Oct. 2

FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- RadioShack® will again join LIVESTRONG in support of its annual day of action in the global fight against cancer on Saturday, Oct. 2. Since entering this special partnership last year, RadioShack and its customers have generated more than $4 million for LIVESTRONG in its mission to support people and families with cancer. RadioShack will again engage its stores nationwide to promote the messages of wellness, awareness and empowerment through several key activities in the days ahead.

Oct. 2, 2010, marks the 14th anniversary of LIVESTRONG founder Lance Armstrong's cancer diagnosis. Since his own diagnosis, Armstrong's inspiring journey of advocacy has united a vast grassroots community in support of the estimated 28 million people worldwide who are living with cancer today.

In observance of LIVESTRONG Day 2010, RadioShack will unveil a giant digital rendition of the "Team 28 Mosaic" in New York's Times Square for one day only on Saturday, Oct. 2. The mosaic is based on the iconic photograph of Armstrong taken at the final stage of the 2010 Tour de France, composed of photos of all the Facebook and Twitter supporters who have tagged their profiles with the Team 28 symbol (see #team28 or http://twb.ly/team-28 via Twitter).

RadioShack will donate $1 to LIVESTRONG up to $100,000 for every person who tags their social media profile with the Team 28 symbol in 24 hours on Oct. 2. Video of the billboard at Times Square's Military Island will be streamed live online during the day at http://team28.RadioShack.com, allowing supporters to see profile images appear larger-than-life on the digital mosaic as they are added. More than 20,000 supporters already have joined Team 28 on Facebook and Twitter, generating nearly 9 million impressions online.

RadioShack's nationwide network of nearby locations make it easier for customers to get involved on LIVESTRONG Day by adding a donation to LIVESTRONG of $1, $5 or $10 with any purchase. In addition, RadioShack offers an exclusive line-up of LIVESTRONG mobile accessories specially designed to offer users another visible, tangible connection to the LIVESTRONG community while contributing a portion of proceeds to the foundation. In honor of LIVESTRONG Day, RadioShack will offer these accessories at 20% off through Oct. 2.
