Raytheon Canada Awarded Contract for NextGen HFSWR

WATERLOO, Ontario, Jan. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Canada Limited has been awarded a Technology Demonstration Program for its Next Generation High Frequency Surface Wave Radar (HFSWR) by the Canadian Department of National Defence, Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC). A system will now be installed at Hartlen Point, Nova Scotia, with a demonstration to commence in 2012.

"HFSWR is one of the most important new technologies available to protect our fisheries and marine environment and to provide ice flow monitoring in the Arctic and East Coast. Raytheon Canada's HFSWR is an over-the-horizon sensor that detects and tracks ship traffic within a nation's 200 nautical mile EEZ. The technology has been in development for more than 20 years with the strong support of DRDC. Internationally, Raytheon Canada has systems operational in the Black Sea and the Indian Ocean. Raytheon's HFSWR has proven itself in all operating environments and a wide range of sea state conditions; it is a fully exportable technology.
