Regal Delivers Its Biggest Domestic Summer at the Box Office Since 2018

Revenues up 35.3% thanks to strong performance with the biggest movies of the summer

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 17, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Regal's gross domestic box office revenues grew more than 35% year-over-year this summer, marking the company's biggest summer in eight years.

Performance in the period (May 1-Sept. 7) was driven by outstanding delivery across all movies with particular strength on the biggest films of the summer, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey. The company took 18.2% of share on Spider-Man and 19.5% of The Odyssey, both well ahead of its 16.5% share of the market as a whole.

The depth of the movie slate this summer played a key part in the success of the season. Alongside the summer's two biggest releases, Toy Story 5, Michael, The Mandalorian and Grogu, Obsession, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Backrooms, and Minions & Monsters each brought a different audience into theatres. The strength of the schedule was consistent from the first weekend in May through Labor Day rather than being concentrated in a handful of dates.

Premium large formats continue to contribute to ongoing growth through company investment in renovating theatres with expanded premium offerings including the recently opened Regal Sherman Oaks Galleria in Los Angeles. Regal's premium format box office rose 63% year over year and represented 22% of the circuit's summer revenue in the period, up from 18% a year ago, and contributing a third of the company's total increase. IMAX revenue at Regal more than doubled, RPX grew 80%, ScreenX grew 45%, and 4DX grew 13%. Premium formats made up more than 60% of Regal's gross on The Odyssey, a third on The Mandalorian and Grogu, and a quarter on Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Standard format revenue grew 29% over the same period, showing that the increase came from across the circuit rather than from premium alone.
