Institute seeks technology proposals to increase the reuse, remanufacturing/retreading or recycling of New York State waste tires
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 30, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The REMADE Institute®, a division of the Sustainable Manufacturing Innovation Alliance Corp., today issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to solicit both technology development projects and technology demonstration projects that will increase the reuse, remanufacturing/retreading, or recycling of end-of-life tires (ELT) generated in New York State.
The RFP is part of the ongoing New York State (NYS) Waste Tire Program. REMADE® was selected to develop and administer the NYS Waste Tire Program earlier this year on behalf of the New York State Department of Economic Development.
As part of this RFP, REMADE is seeking proposals for two grant programs: 1) technology development projects and 2) technology demonstration projects. Development projects require structured research to fully develop the technology and confirm the expected performance of the technology. Demonstration projects are when the technology is fully developed and will be demonstrated to conduct pre-commercial trials that will establish the performance and market for the technology.
Prospective technologies include, for example, technologies to enable novel uses of whole or shredded tires; markets and applications for tire-derived fuel, crumb rubber, ground tire rubber, micronized tire rubber, rubber modified asphalt, and tire-derived aggregate; technologies to decrease costs of retreading tires; advanced technologies for evaluating the remaining useful life of used tires; integration and adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to increase yields, decrease costs, or otherwise increase the performance of processes for converting ELT into marketable products; and more.
Responses to the RFP are sought from industry, non-profits, and academia. Organizations do not need to be based in New York State in order to respond, however all proposals must have a New York State partner as the source of ELT within the state.
