One Family's Pursuit of the American Dream
Fred Zylstra: Fred "Pop" Zylstra, an immigrant from the Netherlands and the founder of Rena Ware, led Rena Ware from 1941 through the early 1960's. By 1955, Rena Ware had grown nationally from coast to coast, becoming one of the largest direct sales cookware companies in the world. After handing over the active leadership of the company to his son Bill, Pop continued as Chairman of the Board until his retirement 1963.
Otto "Bill" Zylstra: Bill Zylstra joined Rena Ware's management team in 1952 where he held the unofficial title of "trouble-shooter". He became Rena Ware's president in 1960 and spearheaded the company's international expansion. In 1965, company sales records were being shattered on a regular basis, and by the end of 1979 Rena Ware achieved its first 1 billion in lifetime sales. Bill retired in 1993 at the age of 70.
Russ Zylstra: Russ Zylstra joined Rena Ware's corporate staff in 1979 as Product Research and Development Director. He earned promotions to Executive Vice President in 1985, and Chief Executive Officer in 1988, and after his father's retirement in 1993, he served as Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer.
