MT. HOLLY, S.C., Oct. 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- In recent days, American Primary Aluminum Association member company Century Aluminum had the privilege of hosting U.S. Representative Joe Wilson for a tour of Century's Mt. Holly smelter. During his visit, Representative Wilson provided remarks to employees, emphasizing the valuable role they play in supporting U.S. national security, and highlighting the impact of President Trump's 50 percent tariff in adding jobs at the smelter.
"Aluminum is not only an economic force for the state of South Carolina, the Mt. Holly aluminum smelter is critical for U.S. national security. We need American-made aluminum for our ships, aircraft, military vehicles, and other equipment essential for keeping our troops safe," remarked Representative Wilson. "As we work to achieve peace through strength, I applaud President Trump for his 50 percent national security aluminum tariff, which is creating over 100 new aluminum manufacturing jobs here at Mt. Holly."
As a result of President Trump's 50 percent aluminum tariff with no exceptions and exemptions, Century Aluminum plans to return the Mt. Holly smelter to 100 percent capacity by Spring of 2026, which will bring at least 100 new high-paying jobs to the local community.
