Sanitation Workers in Salinas Win Union Representation with Local 350
SALINAS, Calif., Oct. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- A group of 40 workers at the multibillion-dollar waste hauler Republic Services have voted to join Teamsters Local 350. The drivers, mechanics, and heavy equipment operators provide vital waste collection services to commercial and residential customers in the Salinas, Calif., area.
"For years we heard Republic Services workers around the region talk about what it means to be a Teamster — that it's about being part of something bigger than themselves and having the power to fight for a better life," said Joe Muñoz, a 20-year Republic worker. "Our victory showed just how powerful that message is. Now with the strength of the Teamsters on our side, we will secure a strong contract that gives us fairness on the job."
Republic Services is a notoriously anti-union, anti-worker company. It has a long history of mistreating workers and inducing large-scale strikes that cost the company's shareholders huge amounts of money.
"This win belongs to the Republic Services workers whose dedication and unity brought their fight across the finish line," said Robert Sandoval, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 350. "This is just the beginning of their battle. Local 350 will do everything in our power to ensure they secure a strong contract that guarantees them the respect they deserve from this multibillion-dollar corporation."
The Teamsters Union fiercely represents thousands of Republic Services workers across the country. Republic Services is the second largest waste hauler in America. Last year, its workers generated $16.6 billion in revenue.
Teamsters Local 350 represents members in the public sector and solid waste, recycling, and linen industries, and in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, San Benito and Monterey Counties. For more information, please visit teamsters350.com.
