BROOKFIELD, Wis., June 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- RF Technologies®, a leading provider of radio frequency identification (RFID) healthcare safety and security solutions, has released a software update that adds a door loitering alarm and wander event reporting to its Code Alert® Wandering Management Solution.

The updates help reduce the risk and liabilities associated with a resident elopement by proactively warning caregivers when residents are near a monitored exit for a prolonged time. Caregivers can quickly react to the resident, improving safety and peace of mind for families.

Near-door events are also captured in software, so caregivers can generate a wander event report to help identify behavior that may lead to an elopement.

The Code Alert Wandering Management Solution is used to protect residents in senior living communities. Residents at risk of elopement wear small, lightweight RFID transmitters that promote mobility and a home-like environment.

When a resident wearing a transmitter comes within range of a monitored door, the system will issue an optional near-door alarm. Caregivers are notified through computer control stations, and optional pagers, Quick Look LED displays, and mobile devices for a faster response.

"The advance warning of knowing when a resident is near an exit can help prevent a potentially dangerous elopement," said Paul Larson, vice president of product development. "These software features are an added safety measure to help caregivers respond quickly, spot trends and ultimately, help them provide better care."

Code Alert software is customizable to the needs of senior living communities and can integrate Wandering Management and Quick Response® Wireless Call systems onto a single platform. Featuring point-of-care event classification, resident locationing capabilities and reporting, software is designed to help caregivers respond quickly to residents while maximizing workflow.
