Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia is an after school program for girls in grades 3 through 8 that uses the power of running to help prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Teams meet during a 10-week season, as coaches weave training for a 5K with lessons which reinforce a strong sense of self, strong friendships and giving back to the community.
"Our goal is to develop the physical, mental, social and emotional aspects of every girl to create strong, contented and self-confident young women," said Catherine Keightley, Executive Director of Girls on the Run NOVA.
The Girls on the Run 5K represents the realization of a goal that every girl establishes for herself throughout the season, and is the culmination of weeks of training.
This fall, almost 3,500 girls and their families will be running the Girls on the Run 5K at Jiffy Lube Live. For more information about Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia, and to learn more about this season's Fall 5K, please visit our website: www.gotrnova.org.
