Runtastic Launches New App for the Just-Announced Samsung GALAXY Gear

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Runtastic -- an innovative suite of apps, products and services that track and manage health and fitness data to motivate individuals to get in shape, stay healthy and improve overall fitness -- introduced a customized version of its famous running app for the Samsung GALAXY Gear -- also announced today. Runtastic users can track distance, speed, elevation, heart rate, pace, and calories burned and view the data on the GALAXY Gear's easy-to-view screen on their wrist. Runtastic plans to make their popular Road Bike and Mountain Bike apps available on the new device soon.

During workouts, the Runtastic app sends tracking data from a user's phone to the GALAXY Gear via Bluetooth technology. Users can view many different metrics -- and start and stop the app -- straight from the device. Following exercise, users can save workouts for later review on Runtastic.com or schedule a reminder for future training.

Runtastic is one of only a handful of selected partners receiving early access to the GALAXY Gear for app development. In addition, Runtastic will be featured at Samsung's booth during the upcoming IFA 2013 tradeshow, where the new wearable will be unveiled at the 'Samsung Unpacked' launch event.

The Samsung GALAXY Gear has been custom built to amplify the mobile experience. Apps can be purchased on your mobile device and transferred directly to the wearable. The square face offers a high-resolution, color display and touch-screen functionality. Users can navigate through menus and applications via short and long touches, and horizontal/vertical swipe gestures.
