Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services is Choice Hotels and Rebuilding Together's Rebuilding Dreams Project

WASHINGTON, Sept. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- More than 4,000 votes were cast for Choice Hotels and Rebuilding Together's Rebuilding Dreams Project, and voters have chosen the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services to receive the $20,000 grant. Through this grant, Rebuilding Together Sacramento and volunteers from Econo Lodge and Rodeway Inn will provide critical repairs and renovations to SFBFS at no cost to them on October 25, 2012.

Rebuilding Together, Econo Lodge and Rodeway Inn volunteers will build a new outdoor kitchen, assemble shelves for the library and seed bank, and paint the outside beams and interior rooms of the garden center. Volunteers will also help with SFBFS's gardening needs. They will lay soil, plant fruit trees, and plant a garden in the garden center.

SFBFS is a non-profit agency committed to serving individuals and families in need. With a staff of 40 and a volunteer force of over 4,000, SFBFS provides free emergency goods and services to nearly 20,000 unduplicated men, women and children each month. Their current programs include helping families make healthier food choices through lessons on nutrition, clothing those in need with school uniforms, suits for job interviews, and seasonal weather attire, and educating both adults and youths for personal, social, and professional success.

This is the third year that Rebuilding Together and Choice Hotels partnered to help revitalize local communities. Voting began on Aug. 21 and closed on Sept. 12. The three other finalists were C.E. McGruder Family Resource Center, Urban Underground, and Helping Abused Neglected Disadvantaged Youth (HANDY). These other nonprofits will receive a $1,000 donation for making it to the final round.
