WELLESLEY, Mass., Aug. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Sadie Burton-Goss, Ph.D. has been named Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer at Babson College, reporting to President Len Schlesinger. As CDIO she will provide strategic leadership and counsel, driving Babson's mission to continuously create and sustain a culture of inclusion for all members of the Babson Community (students, faculty, staff, and alumnae). She joins Babson College following a distinguished career as an internal and external senior leader, consultant and successful entrepreneur focused on the development of high performing diverse leaders and organizations. "Every now and then the stars align and you are in the right place at the right time, for the right work. What a privilege it is to join Babson College and its leaders in this role. Babson's VISION, mission and strategy articulate a clear commitment to diversity and inclusion for global impact maximizing social and economic value," she said.
Dr. Goss brings twenty years of experience teaching and practicing the art and science of diversity and inclusion. As an entrepreneur she founded Goss Associates and guided Fortune 1000 companies, educational institutions and small businesses to further their missions and strategies through the effective leadership, engagement and leveraging of the richly diverse talent in their employ.
As the first in her family to attend college, she earned her Ph.D. from Lesley University, an MS from Lesley College's School of Management and a BA from Wellesley College. These educational experiences, combined with studies of relational cultural theory at the Wellesley College Jean Baker Miller Training Institute and Interactive Leadership training with David Burnham illuminating the power motive, shaped her worldview. She embraced the criticality of diversity leadership, multi-culturism, socio-cognitive theories, cross-culture considerations, and inclusion for capacity building, insuring resilient individuals and sustainable organizations.
This informed her work as Founder and Managing Partner for Goss Associates, Assistant Vice President at TJX Companies and Corporate Director of Organization and Management Development at Liberty Mutual Insurance. In senior leadership roles she designed, developed and delivered strategy-driven diversity and multi-cultural initiatives in government, technology, healthcare, and financial service organizations, bridging differences and leveraging strengths. As an entrepreneurial leader educating other entrepreneurs, she served as sales and marketing faculty and coach for MassHousing's Minority and Women Owned Business Development Program and on advisory boards for the Massachusetts Affirmative Marketing Program and for the Center for Women Entrepreneurs. International entrepreneurial engagement included the South Africa Trade Mission sponsored by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Recognized as an early proponent of integrating diversity and inclusion into all aspects of talent management, leadership and organization development, Dr. Goss has shared her expertise in managing and leading diversity at Bentley, MIT, MCAD/Massachusetts Legal Continuing Education (MCLE), Wellesley College, Harvard, Hellenic College, Darrow School, a host of small businesses, fortune 1000 firms, local and national conferences. Committed to investing in the next generation of leaders, she has coached emerging minority executives for The Partnership, Inc.'s Next Generation Executive Program and first year business students for Babson's Coaching for Leadership and Teamwork. Annually she facilitates multicultural programs for high school students and school leaders for the National Association of Independent Schools People of Color Conference.
A Boston native, and community activist, Dr. Goss has worked and traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Africa, the Caribbean and Europe.
