SafeSport Sees 125% Increase in New Visitors to its Disciplinary Database

The increase follows the launch of weekly news updates designed to better inform the public of adults banned or restricted from sport

DENVER, Sept. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Center for SafeSport today announced that it has seen a 125% increase in new visitors to its Centralized Disciplinary Database (CDD) in the first month since launching weekly news updates to better inform the public of individuals who have been banned or restricted from sport participation within the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement.

"Checking SafeSport's database should be a common practice among parents, employers, sport administrators, and youth-serving organizations, but too few have been aware of this powerful resource," said Olympian Benita Fitzgerald Mosley, CEO. "Recognizing how underutilized this tool has been, we are investing in amplifying it nationwide with the hope of increasing transparency and fostering safer sport environments."

The CDD lists adults who are banned or restricted from participating in sport within the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement, which includes elite competition all the way down to grassroots local affiliated organizations. SafeSport began issuing regular announcements to note individuals within the Movement who have been added to the CDD on July 21 along with updates on the outcomes of cases that go to arbitration. The 125% increase was seen in comparing new visitors to the CDD between July 21 and August 20 of 2026 with the same period in 2025. In the first month, SafeSport's weekly news updates helped more than 6,300 new visitors access the CDD.

"SafeSport imposes sanctions to hold bad actors accountable and mitigate risk to sport communities, but not all sport organizations are required to enforce our bans," Jessica Perrill, General Counsel & Vice President of Response & Resolution said. "Our database exposes SafeSport restrictions publicly so that parents and others have the facts when making decisions about which sport programs to choose."

The CDD is updated in real time and is searchable by name, city, state, and sport. The Denver Post published an article in July shining a light on 80 Colorado-based individuals sanctioned or restricted by SafeSport. Need for Abuse Prevention in Sport  
The U.S. Center for SafeSport is the nation's only independent organization dedicated to ending sexual, physical, and emotional abuse in U.S. Olympic and Paralympic sport. SafeSport emerged in response to high-profile cases of sexual abuse of minor athletes within Olympic and Paralympic sport in the mid-2010s. About the U.S. Center for SafeSport
The Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017 codified the U.S. Center for SafeSport, as the nation's safe sport organization. It furthered SafeSport's independence while underscoring its authority to hold individuals accountable. It also charged SafeSport with developing policies, procedures, and training to prevent abuse and misconduct in sport.

In October of 2020, the Empowering Olympic, Paralympic, and Amateur Athletes Act of 2020 became law, even further strengthening SafeSport's independence and oversight functions while mandating minimum funding requirements for the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee.
