San Diego Fleet Week Will Continue
Plans to Proceed for Star-Spangled Roster of Events for 2013
SAN DIEGO, April 22, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The men and women that defend the land of the free and the home of the brave are honored each year by San Diego's Fleet Week military tribute, and 2013 will be no different. This year's roster of events includes festivities exclusively for the military, as well as some spectacular events open to the public that community members will not want to miss.
"San Diego will continue to show its appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices of our troops," says San Diego Fleet Week Foundation Executive Director Alexandra Squires. "The funding for our non-profit foundation is derived from generous corporate sponsors and patriotic individual donors, and we are proud and excited that Fleet Week will be celebrated once again in America's Finest City."
The 2013 schedule of events is as follows:
- Fleet Week All Enlisted Golf Tournament – Friday, September 13
- Fleet Week/SDMAC Breakfast – Wednesday, September 18
- Fleet Week Enlisted Recognition Luncheon – Thursday, September 19
- Fleet Week Coronado Speed Festival – Saturday-Sunday, September 21-22
- MCRD Boot Camp Challenge – Saturday, September 28
- Fleet Week Football Classic – date TBD
- Miramar Air Show – Friday – Sunday, October 4-6
"San Diego is home to the largest concentration of military in the world and is a region that enthusiastically supports our men and women in uniform," Squires says. "2013 will be no different. Our Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen are an important part of our community, and our mission is to honor and celebrate them as we have done for over a decade."
As always, these events are hosted at little or no cost to the military families they honor, thanks to the financial support of the Foundation's corporate sponsors and the commitment of many dedicated volunteers. Members of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard are the primary honorees of these events, but the local community is welcome and invited to enjoy many of these activities as well.
About San Diego Fleet Week Foundation
The non-profit, 501(c)(3) foundation was created by community and business leaders who understood the great depth of public support for our Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen. In addition to honoring the military services through the annual Fleet Week San Diego events, the foundation's goals are to foster awareness of the contributions made by military personnel and their families; to enhance relationships between the civilian, business and military communities; to provide events that military personnel and their families can attend at little or no cost; and to promote other organizations that provide services to military personnel and their families. Fleet Week San Diego is funded solely through the generosity of individuals and corporate contributions. More information is available at the website http://www.fleetweeksandiego.org/donate.html.
