San Diego Hispanic High School Students to Participate in United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation BizFest Program

WASHINGTON, Aug. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) Foundation, in conjunction with Visa, Sempra Utilities and Mission Federal Credit Union, proudly presents its signature program, BizFest Youth Entrepreneurship 2011, in San Diego, CA, on August 25-27, 2011, at the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation. BizFest is an innovative and intensive entrepreneurial training program where Hispanic high school juniors and seniors learn how to turn their hobbies into profitable business ventures. The USHCC Foundation BizFest program will be co-hosted in San Diego by The Alianza Network.
"California is home to a large number of our chamber members and in addition, the state's Hispanic population is the largest in the country. For these reasons, the USHCC Foundation is proud to welcome thirty students, representing eight area high schools in San Diego, to participate in our BizFest program," says Javier Palomarez, President and CEO of the USHCC. "Hispanic Business Enterprises are leading the growth of our nation's economy and programs such as BizFest provide our youth with critical thinking and life-long learning skills so that they may continue to fuel the growth of Hispanic entrepreneurialism."
Serving as the capstone of BizFest, students will be asked to develop a practical business idea and plan, which will be presented to a panel of judges.
The three-day training event is designed to teach students a variety of relevant business techniques through a curriculum that focuses on leadership development and entrepreneurship training. During the leadership development program, students will be asked to evaluate their own personal level of attitude, level of commitment, discipline and other personal traits in relation to being successful. Expert trainers from the University of Texas – Pan American (UTPA) will teach students various business techniques including how to network in business environments and how to give presentations.

The top three students will be joined by the winners of Most Entrepreneurial, Business Plan with the Most Potential and Most Innovative Business Plan at the USHCC 32nd Annual National Convention & Business Expo in Miami, Florida, where they will compete against the BizFest 2011 winners from McAllen, Texas. Participants will receive a BizFest certificate of completion and exposure to internship and scholarship opportunities.
