Sanofi's pediatric vaccine "Hexaxim" remains the most administered hexavalent vaccine in the world with 62% of volume share
NEW YORK, Nov. 23, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- A new study on the usage patterns of pediatric hexavalent vaccines reveals that Sanofi's vaccine "Hexaxim" remains the most administered hexavalent vaccine in the world in 2019 with 62% of volume share, followed by Infanrix Hexa (32%,) and Vaxelis 6%.
Hexavalent vaccines are six in-one combination vaccines that protect babies against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), poliomyelitis, haemophilus influenza type B and hepatitis B.
- In 2019, the top 35 countries consumed 22 million doses of hexavalent vaccines which represents 92% of the hexavalent vaccine global consumption. (Find the full list in the report)
- The top 35 countries are geographically diverse: Mexico (5.4 m doses), South Africa (3.5m million doses), followed by Germany,Vietnam, the UK, and France each consuming more than 2m doses.
- Overall, Europe accounts for 42% of the hexavalent vaccines market by volume.
- In public markets (those where the Government bears part or all of the cost of immunisation), Hexaxim had an even higher share of 69%.
- Hexaxim is the only brand used in the national immunisation schedule in 12 public markets: South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Iraq, Libya, Chile, Panama, Kazakhstan, Belgium, Austria, Norway and Georgia.
- In 2019, 1.7 million doses of hexaxim were distributed for pre-term infants.
