Santa Barbara Accountant Steve Pybrum Speaks Out

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., March 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Author Steve Pybrum reports: recently in a barrage of news releases from the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Federal Prosecutors continue their Pybrum bashing by reporting false and misleading statements about long time Santa Barbara CPA and Author of the Money and Marriage series of books.

In some clever wording the USAO claims that Pybrum under reported 1 million dollars in his Federal tax returns when all the while Pybrum and the USAO do not have ten cents of dispute over the amount of income Pybrum reported. The clever wording in the government's news release makes it sound like a lot of money just was not reported.

Pybrum incorporated his business in 1999. Due to the social purpose of his Money and Marriage work that he conducted around the country, after he incorporated, Pybrum made an application to the IRS and was granted a 501(c)(3) status. The charitable work that was to be performed consisted of research, writing, speaking and counseling. The application that was approved, by the IRS, delineated 4 years of expected service revenues from the counseling segment which included tax preparation services and financial planning services.

Pybrum not only conducted business counseling with couples and family owned business owners, he also performed all of the other segments of the business that was granted the 501(c) (3) status. Pybrum has put in over 11,000 hours of research, in writing two books "Money and Marriage-Making it Work Together" and "Money and Marriage for Engaged Couples."

Federal Prosecutors come along and spuriously want from the counseling segment the FFHH tax and financial planning income to be declassified from the corporate entity and reported as a sole proprietorship.

USAO attacks Pybrum for including his tax preparation and financial planning activities within the FFHH, Inc. Further the government attempts to claw back the tax and financial planning activity out of the corporate structure and is insisting this segment of the Money and Marriage project belongs in the sole proprietor format. The whole time the Internal Revenue code has provisions within it to deal with "activities" within a 501(c) (3) organization that generate revenue. If the government so chooses it can ask the organization to pay, by taxing the activities as UBI (Unrelated Business Income).  On the other hand how are you going to have a going concern that deals with money and marriage without offering some financial planning and counseling? A puzzling question.

If every independently owned business knew that the government could pounce and then at its whim force you out of the corporate entity you legally formed and insist that you report the income as a sole proprietor, there would be utter chaos in the market place.

Many authors and speakers have similar Foundations, the most notable one is the Clinton Foundation, with its 300 million dollar surplus.

Pybrum carried out the charitable purpose outlined in the charter for the Foundation for Harmony and Happiness in conducting over 11,000 hours of research, then writing books and articles on money and marriage topics, speaking on 500 radio and television interviews on all the major networks, then speaking to various business and civic groups across the country. "Money and Marriage-Making It Work Together" (1996) was the first book written in America that fused together the two professions of psychology and financial planning.

The book has been mentioned in newspaper and magazine articles in China, Europe and Russia.

Now this brave American Author faces a prison sentence after becoming attacked by the IRS.
