SAP, Sybase Each Recognized as a Leader in Enterprise Database Warehousing Platform by Independent Research Firm

WALLDORF, Germany and DUBLIN, Calif., Feb. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) and Sybase, Inc., an SAP® company and industry leader in enterprise and mobile software, today announced that they were each among the select companies that Forrester Research, Inc. invited to participate in its independent report, published February 10, 2011, "The Forrester Wave™: Enterprise Database Warehousing Platforms, Q1 2011." After an extensive review, Forrester recognized both SAP and Sybase among the leaders in Enterprise Database Warehouse (EDW) Platforms for their innovative approaches to shipping next-generation appliances.

In Forrester's 56-criteria evaluation of EDW vendors, the firm specifically found that Sybase was among those companies that "lead by offering high-performance, scalable, flexible and robust EDW solutions."

Forrester's evaluation states, "Sybase's mature columnar EDW platform, coupled with a fresh injection of developmental capital from new parent SAP, gives it a competitive advantage. Expect SAP Sybase to leverage these strengths, plus intensify its focus on in-memory and in-database analytics, to grow its share of the EDW market among large enterprises requiring robust real-time analytics solutions."

The Forrester report cites many differentiators of Sybase IQ including its integration with Sybase data modeling and data integration tools, the ability to run on a broad range of software and hardware platforms, and considerable extensibility and customization through in-database analytics, LDMs, UDFs and stored procedures.

In its assessment of SAP, the report states "with a focus on massively parallel scale-out through its [SAP] HANA technology, SAP positions [SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse] BW/[SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse Accelerator] BWA as an increasingly scalable platform for heterogeneous data analytics environments of SAP and non-SAP solutions. Through the acquisition of Sybase and rapid delivery of the promised next-generation [SAP] HANA appliance, SAP distances itself from the slow-moving competitor of yore and becomes a technology pacesetter in this segment."

Moreover, the report says, "Its [SAP's] differentiating go-to-market message for EDW focuses on in-memory, real-time, columnar technologies. It has an aggressive acquisition and partnering push around EDW."
