Bright Futures Atlanta is a three-part program that serves Atlanta's youth in the Bankhead neighborhood—a neighborhood that is characterized by its high poverty and high crime rates and limited opportunities for students. The students in this area are typically zoned to attend public schools with 50% and lower graduation rates.
The nonprofit targets three crucial areas of each student's life— their mental, physical, and spiritual growth— boasting an excellent, private academic program, three nutritional meals per day, valuable life skills, emotional support, and daily extracurricular sports and activities.
Founded by Philip and Gail Ross in 2002, the program has successfully transformed the lives of previously under-served youth. It has also created a significant positive impact on the families and communities of Atlanta, and a social awareness of these frequently overlooked issues.
After meeting the students of Bright Futures Atlanta a few years ago, Jay Geier and the Scheduling Institute team were convicted to increase their involvement with Atlanta's youth and maximize their impact in these young people's lives. "The people that work at Scheduling Institute believe in giving back and making an impact. They just needed that nudge and that opportunity to give. Once the opportunity became available, people really started to step up to the challenge, and the response was overwhelming," said Lauren Andreas, long-time employee of Jay Geier.
Since their initial trip to Bright Futures Atlanta, the Scheduling Institute team has: supplied Christmas gifts for each student, hosted a vision Clarity Retreat for the Bright Future's Board of Directors, and created initiatives such as the "College Moving Expenses" fund. Scheduling Institute has additionally hosted, planned and volunteered at a variety of entertaining and educational events—including the students' Senior Prom and Homecoming, a 2015 Christmas party, Bright Futures Impact dinner, weekend trips to Ashville and Blue Ridge, Thanksgiving Week and a holiday ice skating trip.
The Scheduling Institute team was also inspired to take on a mentoring role with the students, inviting a group to the SI World Headquarters in Alpharetta, GA, where the company's marketing experts led a tour of the facility and spoke on business principles and the company's core values. "We enjoyed visiting Jay Geier's Scheduling Institute World Headquarters today, and we thank Mr. Geier and the entire staff for their support of Bright Futures Atlanta," Ross said. "We are so blessed by our partnership with them!"
As the relationship between Bright Futures Atlanta and Scheduling Institute continues to develop, more and more Scheduling Institute employees have felt driven to donate their time, money and energy. This year alone, the Scheduling Institute team along with their CEO and founder, Jay Geier, has contributed over $70,000 to continue the legacy at Bright Futures Atlanta, and to further their mission of rising above the status quo.
"There are currently 60 students attending Bright Futures Atlanta," explained Lauren Andreas. "Bright Futures Atlanta is sending these kids to college, military, and technical school. The students are learning life skills, discipline, and how to become productive adults in society. This program gives them experiences they would not receive in a public school. Some of the kids might not have dinner if they did not attend the school. Thanks to this program, they are provided a place where they feel safe and encouraged, and we are thrilled to be a part of that." The annual program cost is $10,000 per student. With their financial contributions, Jay Geier and the Scheduling Institute team have funded approximately seven of the 60 students.
Scheduling Institute also encourages their clients to lead lives of impact—empowering doctors to give in ways that bring them outside their comfort zones. The Scheduling Institute's Dental Mission Program was introduced in May 2015, and since then, more than six doctors and their teams have given up weeks of production for the chance to serve families in Costa Rica. Dr. John Acosta and his team, the first Scheduling Institute client to make the trip, provided dental care for over 125 children, including composites, crowns, and extractions.
Jay Geier is very clear about his personal stance on giving. He donates 10% of his personal income and 10% of the company's profit every single year, and asks that his team members do the same. Geier has made large donations to a number of non-profits, including the Red Cross, Mt. Pisgah Christian School, Costa Rica Missions, Habitat for Humanity, The ALS Association, Susan G. Komen, Wounded Warrior Project, Smile Train, and Dentistry from the Heart, among many others.
Jay Geier's Scheduling Institute has been widely recognized not only for their commitment to serving the community, but also for their outstanding performance and expertise. Founded in 1997, Scheduling Institute has become the largest dental training and coaching company in the world, helping thousands of dentists to make more money while working less. This allows them to spend more time with their families, pursue personal fulfillment, and give generously to their communities.
Dentaltown readers have voted the Scheduling Institute "Top Consultant and Advisor" five years in a row, and the Georgia Business Chronicle has named them one of the fastest growing businesses in the state. With nearly 200 team members, over 52 Certified Training Specialists, a state-of-the-art 8,000 foot training facility within one mile of Atlanta's International Airport, and a new training facility opening for all West Coast clients in Phoenix, Arizona, the Scheduling Institute continues to expand their wide-reaching impact.
