Schwartz Brothers Statement Regarding Blaylock Settlement
SEATTLE, Nov. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Schwartz Brothers Restaurants wishes to clarify any confusion which may have been generated by the earlier press release issued by the law firm representing Melissa Blaylock in her lawsuit against her former husband Bruce Greene and Schwartz Brothers.
The jury's verdict was entered against Greene only. While Schwartz Brothers was a party to the suit at one time, its involvement ceased before Blaylock finished presenting her case and before Schwartz Brothers had an opportunity to present its evidence and defenses to the jury. Consequently, the jury's verdict is based on only one side of the story.
The jury did not find that Schwartz Brothers was negligent in overserving alcohol nor that Schwartz Brothers was a cause of the crash that injured Blaylock. The $51 million in economic damages awarded Blaylock by the jury was based on an agreement reached between Blaylock and Greene after Schwartz Brothers was no longer a party to the case.
As the jury verdict was not against Schwartz Brothers, judgment will only be entered against Greene. Schwartz Brothers has no responsibility for any portion of the jury's verdict.
Blaylock's attorney has agreed to withdraw the earlier press release announcing the verdict. Any questions should be directed to Schwartz Brothers' attorney Steven Wraith at 206‑262-8300 or [email protected].
