SCM World 2011 Chief Supply Chain Officer Report Highlights Critical Concerns of Over 750 Global Supply Chain Leaders

Key Findings:

Supply chain is a bona fide value driver: 83% of respondents strongly believe that supply chain excellence creates value through customer service, leading to customer loyalty.

Emerging economies are new growth markets now: Over 80% of supply chain executives report selling and shipping to emerging markets, with a large portion - 38% of the total - asserting that their supply chain strategies are primarily oriented to selling and shipping to these markets.

Sustainability is a boardroom initiative: 65% of respondents characterise the pressure from senior management and the board as the source of their sustainability efforts, illustrating CSR and sustainability is a pure business strategy and no longer a box-ticking exercise to satisfy regulators.

Creating "Leaders" is the key talent management issue: Talent management is a significant issue, with 90% asserting it is at least "an important issue". Additionally, 39% claim that the real talent management issues appear to develop talent at the mid-management level, suggesting a challenge when basic skills are no longer sufficient and when real leadership skills are necessary.
