COLLEGE STATION, Texas, March 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Scott & White Healthcare today broke ground for a five-story, 143-bed acute care hospital. The new Scott & White Hospital-College Station will be located at the intersection of Texas Hwy 6 and Rock Prairie Road. The property was purchased from Weingarten Realty Investors and the College Station ISD.
The 320,000-square-foot facility, designed by Jacobs Architects and Engineers, will be built by Kitchell Contractors. An adjacent 75,000-square-foot clinic is also proposed and will be built by a third-party developer in conjunction with the hospital. The hospital and ambulatory facility will be built within 90 days of each other, with a projected completion date of the summer of 2013 for both projects.
"The Scott & White model of care provides a seamless continuum between inpatient and outpatient services, offering an enhancement to the medical care we've delivered in the Brazos Valley for a quarter of a century," said Alfred B. Knight, M.D., president and CEO, Scott & White Healthcare. "Our new hospital enables us to continue bringing to the College Station area the most effective, cost-efficient, highest quality care we all need for our future."
Jason Jennings, FACHE, has been named chief executive officer for Scott & White Hospital-College Station. Jennings previously served as chief operating officer for Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, one of the 12 hospitals and hospital partners in the Scott & White Healthcare system.
"Patient demand for the excellent ambulatory care Scott & White has provided in the Brazos Valley sparked the building of the new clinic on Arrington Road and now it is time to continue Scott & White's commitment to high quality, coordinated care, close to home," said Mr. Jennings. "As an Aggie, I am excited to return to College Station and give back to the community that has given so much to me."
Scott & White Hospital-College Station will house an emergency department, cardiac services including cardiac catheterization labs, neonatal intensive care unit, comprehensive cancer services, operating rooms, maternity services suites, endoscopic procedure suites, inter-operative robotics and other specialty services, all supported by a pharmacy, comprehensive state-of-the-art imaging technology and other diagnostic capabilities.
"Scott & White Hospital-College Station will be an open staff model hospital and will complement and support our region, which has grown to include multiple clinics and a hospital in Brenham," said William Rayburn, M.D., chief medical officer, Scott & White College Station region. "From a physician perspective, the continuity of care of an inpatient facility with an electronic medical record is unparalleled in its ability to deliver seamless handoffs between clinic and hospital."
Scott & White Hospital-College Station will open initially with 119 beds and can be expanded to accommodate another 24 beds when the need arises.
