WASHINGTON, Dec. 11, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Liam Hopfensperger and Amalan Iyengar, seventh graders from R.D. & E.P. Smith Middle School in Chapel Hill, N.C., accept a check for $2,000 at the first annual School SCRABBLE® Capitol Cup in Washington, D.C. 37 teams of 5th-8th graders from 8 states plus the District of Columbia competed in 5 grueling rounds of SCRABBLE®. The School SCRABBLE® Capitol Cup is a new annual event to highlight the partnership between the National SCRABBLE® Association and D.C. Public Schools as part of the growing School SCRABBLE® movement. To kick off the citywide School SCRABBLE® effort, game manufacturer Hasbro is donating 127 School SCRABBLE® Kits to every public middle school in Washington.
