Seabrook House to Sponsor the First Annual Sober St. Patrick's Day Event March 17 in New York City

SEABROOK, N.J., Feb. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Seabrook House, a nationally prominent addictions treatment organization, has signed on as a lead sponsor of the first annual Sober St. Patrick's Day celebration in New York City.

Sober St. Patrick's Day, the first of its kind, will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 17 at Regis High School at 55 E. 84th St. on the Upper East Side, within blocks of the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Event producer William Spencer Reilly said this holiday is often a trigger for those in recovery, so he wanted to provide a place to celebrate Irish culture in a sober environment. Irish step dancers will twirl around the floor to live traditional music, while pipe bands and musical guests serenade the crowd with soulful and lively Irish tunes.

"It's important for those in recovery from addiction to have sober ways to have fun, and there's no better way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day than to take part in this event."

The event is presented with the help of the Irish Consulate General in New York, the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence NCADD, as well as a large cross section of treatment centers, national recovery organizations and several individuals.

I really like the idea of having a special event on this holiday for Americans of Irish heritage who are in recovery from alcoholism to celebrate our shared heritage in a safe and inclusive environment."

Scheduled to play is the eight-time All Ireland Champion button accordion player, John Whelan; champion fiddle player Brian Conway, singer KT Sullivan, the Mulvihill-Lynch Irish Dancers, Sister Mary Caron plus other surprise guests. Also attending will be Tara Conner, former Miss USA and public advocacy consultant for Caron Treatment Centers.

The Honorary Committee (in formation) includes Irish Consul General in New York, Noel Kilkenny; award-winning actress Fionnula Flanagan; addiction psychiatrist Dr. Garret O'Connor; writer and actor Malachy McCourt; President and CEO of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Robert J.
