Senator Kent Conrad to Receive Concord Coalition Award and Discuss America's Fiscal Outlook
WASHINGTON, Nov. 15, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Concord Coalition will present U.S. Senator Kent Conrad (D – North Dakota) with the Paul E. Tsongas Economic Patriot Award at The Concord Coalition's Seventeenth Annual Economic Patriots Dinner. The Dinner will be held on Tuesday evening, November 16, 2010, at The Pierre in New York City.
In honoring Senator Conrad, The Concord Coalition called him a "true deficit hawk, who has made fiscal responsibility a hallmark of his tenure on the Budget Committee, as both Ranking Member and now Chairman. His positions on the debt and deficit are very much in tune with ours. And he also embodies another hallmark of The Concord Coalition – leadership on a bipartisan basis. Over the years, Senator Conrad has reached across the aisle to work on America's most difficult issues: healthcare, entitlement reform, our fiscal future and more, and he continues his bipartisan approach as a member of the president's critical National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform."
"I am deeply honored to be receiving the Concord Coalition's Paul E. Tsongas Economic Patriot Award," said Senator Conrad. "And I am proud to be associated with the Concord Coalition's tireless work to raise public awareness of the long-term fiscal crisis confronting our nation. I intend to uphold the spirit of this award by continuing to fight for a bipartisan plan that puts our budget back on a sound long-term course."
The Paul E. Tsongas Economic Patriot Award honors those who have demonstrated a commitment to fiscal and generational responsibility. The Economic Patriot Award was created in the spirit of nonpartisanship and integrity, which has animated The Concord Coalition from its inception. Throughout the years, the award has been given to individuals from the world of business, government and politics who have made lasting contributions to America's economic health. In 1997, the award was posthumously named for The Concord Coalition's founding Co-Chairman.
After the award presentation, Founding President Peter G. Peterson, Concord Coalition Co-Chairman Bob Kerrey, former U.S. Treasury Secretary Bob Rubin and former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker will discuss "The Fiscal Outlook in an Age of Partisan Gridlock."
The program portion of the evening will begin at approximately 8:00 p.m., in the Cotillion Ballroom of The Pierre. Members of the media who would like to attend should contact Steve Winn at (703) 254-7828 or [email protected].
