Proceeds from the book to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation
NEW YORK, July 17, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) is proud to announce that Sir Elton John's new book, Love Is the Cure, will be in stores today. Sales of Love Is the Cure will benefit the Foundation and its life-saving work.
EJAF focuses its resources on HIV prevention, stigma eradication, treatment, care, and service programs benefitting people who are most at risk of HIV infection and who have been stigmatized, marginalized, and left behind by governments and societies across the globe. The Foundation's programs compassionately engage with people in need by respecting the realities of their circumstances and preserving their dignity.
Sir Elton's book highlights these important aspects of EJAF's approach to the fight against HIV/AIDS. In addition, through stories of his personal encounters with people like Ryan White, Freddie Mercury, and many others, Sir Elton conveys the personal toll AIDS has taken on his life and how this loss has strengthened his determination to stop the spread of the disease.
"This is a disease that must be cured not by a miraculous vaccine, but by changing hearts and minds, and through collective effort to break down social barriers and to build bridges of compassion," Sir Elton writes. "Why are we not doing more? This is a question I have thought deeply about, and wish to answer – and to help change – by writing this book."
"This book would not be possible without the generous support EJAF's cherished friends and donors have provided for our vital, life-saving work over the past 20 years," stated EJAF's Executive Director Scott Campbell. "Much of this work will be featured in Elton's book, and we hope our donors will take great pride in reading about these accomplishments."
The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) was established as a nonprofit organization in the United States in 1992 and as a registered charity in the United Kingdom in 1993 by Sir Elton John. Together, both entities have raised more than $275 million for worthy programs in 55 countries around the globe since inception. Today, the Foundation is one of the world's leading nonprofit HIV/AIDS organizations supporting innovative HIV prevention programs, efforts to eliminate stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS, and direct care and support services for people living with HIV/AIDS. The U.S. organization's current grant-making priorities target HIV prevention programs throughout the United States, the Americas, and the Caribbean; HIV prevention and care services for highly marginalized and vulnerable populations; and HIV/AIDS prevention education and the promotion of sexual health for adolescents.
