Slovakian President Andrej Kiska visits San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- ESET, the global leader in internet security with its North America headquarters in San Diego, hosted His Excellency Andrej Kiska, President of the Slovak Republic, and other Slovakian dignitaries for a one-day tour in San Diego, Calif. to showcase its innovation economy with a focus on cyber security industries.

"The Slovak Republic has a rich heritage of innovation and technological expertise, with advances in the fields of technology, science, music and art," said ESET North American CEO Andrew Lee. The day started at the University Club, where the welcoming remarks were delivered by U.S. Rep. Susan Davis. Then, President Kiska gave remarks about the similarities in technology, innovation and economic vitality that exist between the capital city of Slovakia, Bratislava, and San Diego, and highlighted the shared interest in developing the economic vitality of both regions. President Kiska was joined by community leaders, including County Supervisor Dave Roberts, Council President Pro Tem Sherri Lightner, U.S. Rep. Scott Peters, and President and CEO of San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Jerry Sanders.

The next stop on the tour included a visit to the ESET North America headquarters, where President Kiska and Slovak dignitaries were exposed to San Diego's burgeoning cyber industry and the recently formed Cyber Center of Excellence, a public–private partnership dedicated to accelerating the regional economy by promoting collaboration within the cyber community. 

The culmination of the day's activities was a meeting at San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer's office. The President was presented with a "Key to the City" and officials discussed how to better strengthen the relationship between Slovakia and San Diego.

Our human capital, combined with broad institutional support, has cast San Diego as a key hub of innovation producing ground-breaking technology," said San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer. Slovak dignitaries and guests ended the day with a VIP gala where Captain Eugene Cernan, the last man on the moon, and a Slovak-American, delivered a keynote speech. The theme of the dinner was "Heritage of Innovation" where other famous Slovak and Slovak-Americans were highlighted for their contributions to modern society.
