CHARLOTTE, N.C. and EL PASO, Texas, March 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Conterra Broadband Services, a leading provider of private fiber-optic broadband networks, announced today the lighting of a new all-fiber optic network to support the data, video and voice requirements of the South San Antonio Independent School District's ("SSAISD") 16 locations. The multi-gigabit fiber-optical network connects all of the district's schools and administrative facilities to the South San Antonio ISD Data Center. The district serves approximately 9,854 students and 1,366 staff members.
The fiber-optical network will have the ability scale to 100 gigabits per location with no supplementary construction. Conterra monitors, manages and supports its networks on a 24/7/365 basis and guarantees network performance and reliability.
Dr. Ramiro Zuniga, Director of Technology for SSAISD commented: "This partnership is foundational to our administration's long term vision and commitment to students, parents, and community. We are aggressively ramping up our digital-learning platforms across all our schools and this network is a critical step in that process. The network must work and provide the speed and scalability to support all our digital initiatives of the district. Conterra did a very professional job throughout the entire build process, keeping us informed on a weekly basis which provided peace of mind and confidence in who we were dealing with on such an important long-term decision. We are glad to partner with a specialized optical-broadband provider who delivered on all fronts and on time." Dr. Zuniga added, "The demands on our infrastructure will grow exponentially, and we are now prepared to meet those demands head-on for a very long time."
Conterra's Chief Technical and Operations Officer, Dennis Francis, P.E. said, "Completing the network for the South San Antonio ISD is very gratifying for Conterra and for me, personally. We have built state-of-the-art broadband networks throughout Texas that cover more than 75,000 square miles and serve hundreds of thousands of school students and administrators, in addition to supporting advanced cellular data and emergency services." Mr. Francis added: "As a graduate of a Texas engineering university, it is quite rewarding to give something back to the state's education community. Improving the learning environment and public safety in Texas has been a primary focus of our company for more than a decade, and we look forward to many more years of improving vital telecommunication services to communities throughout the state."
Conterra's EVP Sale & Marketing, Greg Spraetz cited, "We continue to accelerate our capital and local technical resources into the San Antonio market by offering state school districts future-proof network solutions to support the limitless surge of bandwidth and reliability requirements in the education sector.
