NEW YORK, June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Standard & Poor's, the world's leading index provider, announced today that it has been named most innovative index provider of the year at the Structured Products Americas Awards 2010.

On announcing the award, Structured Products magazine said, "S&P Indices offered innovative solutions to investor problems and provided the underlying for the best-selling exchange-traded product (ETP) in the U.S. last year."

"We believe that simplicity and transparency will be important for the U.S. structured products markets to hit the $100 billion threshold," says Alexander Matturri, Executive Managing Director at S&P Indices. "Innovative index-linked products, especially those associated with well-known brands such as the S&P 500 and S&P GSCI, will be the key to hitting this mark. This is why S&P Indices is thrilled with the honor bestowed on us by Structured Products magazine for index innovation around our headline indices."

A few of the forward-thinking and responsive innovations launched by S&P Indices in 2009 and recognized by Structured Products magazine include:

  • The S&P 500 VIX Futures Index Series, which was created to resolve the problem investors face in trying to replicate VIX
  • The S&P 500 Gold Hedged Index, which seeks to simulate the returns of an investment strategy long the total return of the S&P 500 and long gold futures contracts
  • The S&P 500 Dividend Index, which enables investors to hedge or take a view on dividends for U.S. stocks, independent of price movement
  • The S&P Risk Control index framework, which allow for risk managed exposure to well known indices such as S&P 500 and S&P GSCI

"The fact that S&P Indices has been honored with this award multiple times across the Americas, Asia and Europe is a testament to our willingness to work with issuers in bringing to the market innovative index solutions," concludes Matturri.
