HOUSTON, May 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second year, Spark Energy celebrated Earth Month through a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation that will result in thousands of trees planted on behalf of residential customers. The retail energy services company surpassed its target of donating ten thousand trees by twenty percent, resulting in a total of twelve thousand trees being provided for reforestation efforts in four states.
Spark Energy's residential customers could easily participate in the initiative by simply selecting a green electricity or natural gas plan during the month of April. As result of the campaign, the Arbor Day Foundation will plant trees in reforestation projects in California, Texas, Michigan, and New Jersey.
"Together with our customers, Spark Energy is proud to make this annual donation to the Arbor Day Foundation," said Nathan Kroeker, President and CEO of Spark Energy. "We see this as an opportunity to directly impact and improve the communities we serve. Knowing many of these trees will be planted in areas impacted by natural disasters like Hurricane Sandy and the Bastrop wildfire is especially meaningful."
This was the second straight year the retail energy provider donated trees. In 2014, Spark Energy donated fifteen thousand trees that were planted in Illinois, California, and Texas.
"Thanks to the generous support of Spark Energy, the Arbor Day Foundation will be able to plant much-needed trees in critical areas that will help to provide cleaner air and water, vital habitat for wildlife, and beauty for everyone to enjoy. By helping the Arbor Day Foundation to plant trees, Spark Energy is demonstrating their commitment to the environment for this and future generations," said Dan Lambe, President of the Arbor Day Foundation.
