Study Finds NuLiv Science Ingredient, Astrion®, Supports Skin Health and Quality

BREA, Calif., July 9, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- NuLiv Science, a leading plant-based nutraceutical ingredients company enabling people to lead healthier lives, announced the release of a study examining the efficacy and safety of Astrion^® (Astragalus membranaceus and Centella asiatica saponins (ACS))  as a cosmetic ingredient, and a functional supplement ingredient on skin health.

Published in Cosmetics (Natural Plant-Based Rejuvenating Compositions: Human Study on Astragalus membranaceus and Centella asiatica Saponins for Skin Health) - The paper demonstrates that Astrion^®, NuLiv Science's plant-based skincare ingredient, may be effective in promoting several aspects of skin health through both topical and oral applications. Notably, the group testing that combined topical and oral use of the ingredient saw the most significant improvements, with a 4.2% increase in brightness, a 12.9% increase in moisture retention, a 9.0% improvement in elasticity, an 8.2% reduction in melanin value, a 28.5% decrease in pore count, and a 13.7% increase in collagen content compared with the pre-treatment baseline. Oral administration alone saw a 13.2% increase in collagen, an 18.5% decrease in skin texture, and a 10.5% decrease in number of pores compared to the pre-treatment baseline.

Spanning over a three-month period, the randomized, double-blind, parallel, placebo-controlled human trial focused on 150 healthy adults aged 20 years or older, with no history of chronic skin diseases.

The participants were split into six groups, evaluating topical application, oral application, and combined topical and oral, receiving Astrion^® or a placebo in their respective formats.  Results revealed significant improvements in the combined topical internal group, with further noteworthy enhancements observed in the other two formats, including improvements in skin characteristics such as hydration, pore count, and collagen content.
