Since 2007, Sturgeon has played a critical role in addressing some of the mine's most advanced electrical needs. Most recently, Sturgeon Electric completed installation of new high efficiency variable frequency drive (VFD) motors in the historic Magma Mine 8 Shaft, a project critical for maintaining water levels in the historic underground workings. Sturgeon Electric also successfully replaced the load center for the No. 9 shaft breaker, ensuring safe and consistent power delivery to support hoisting operations that transport miners in and out of the shaft as well as a new transformer to power the modernized mine rescue center and replaced two additional load centers for efficient ventilation of the underground mine.
