WASHINGTON, March 7, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Subject Matter announced that Jennie Westbrook Courts and Justine Morgan have joined the firm's growing public affairs team. Both will work alongside Executive Vice President and Managing Director Debra DeShong in expanding Subject Matter's public affairs practice.

"Subject Matter continues to grow and expand since our launch late last year, and I could not be more excited that Jennie and Justine are joining the team," said DeShong. "Since launching the practice, we've taken on new projects and spearheaded award winning work. I can't wait to see where this new team helps to take the company."

Jennie Westbrook Courts joins Subject Matter as senior public affairs associate. Courts comes to Subject Matter from the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, where she most recently served as the communications director for Ranking Member Tom Carper (D-Del.).

"I'm thrilled to join Subject Matter's talented and diverse team of professionals," said Courts. "I've spent the last seven years shaping strategic communications and messaging on Capitol Hill and I'm excited to bringing that experience to Subject Matter's growing public affairs practice."

In her role on the committee, Courts developed and implemented the media strategy and external messaging for Senator Carper's committee legislative priorities, including cybersecurity, immigration reform, effective and efficient government management, and postal reform. Prior to joining the committee, she was the press secretary for Senator Carper's personal office in Washington, D.C., which she first joined in 2009. Courts also served as the deputy press secretary for Virginia in President Barack Obama's successful presidential reelection campaign in 2012. She grew up in Newark, Del. and graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a minor in Political Science.

Justine Morgan is now public affairs associate for Subject Matter. Prior to joining the public affairs team, Justine was a project manager at Subject Matter and orchestrated people, media and processes across the firm to produce award-winning campaigns from initiation to delivery. A few of her clients have included the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, Securing America's Future Energy, Alliance for American Education, and the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation. Before joining Subject Matter, she was a Marketing Client Manager at Beaconfire Consulting and an Interactive Content Manager at Peter Mayer in New Orleans. Justine grew up in New Orleans and holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and American Studies from the University of Michigan.

Subject Matter was launched in September 2015, with the merger of government affairs shop Elmendorf | Ryan and Home Front Communications, the digital, advertising, content, creative and media company. Subject Matter is now a full-service creative, public relations, advertising and communications agency with an extensive track record and diverse experience working with non-profits, companies and government clients at the local, national and international levels.
