Krivak, in their goal to find a cure for ovarian cancer. With the help of sponsors, auction donors, ticket buyers and individual donors, the Benefit was a huge success and brought in over $300,000.
Julie and Mike McMullen's Story
Four years ago, after going to the hospital with intense abdominal pain to get a cyst removed, Julie and Mike got the horrific news that Julie would have to battle ovarian cancer. The mother of a beautiful daughter named Chloe, Julie and Mike learned that over 70% of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer don't survive. With hope and faith they decided to fight this disease. Martin Luther King said, "Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step." Julie and Mike placed their trust in Dr. Thomas C. Krivak and his team from Magee-Womens Research Institute and the Magee-Womens Gynecologic Oncology Division. Dr. Krivak discovered the cancer was contained in one ovary and preformed conservation surgery to save Julie's other ovary and uterus.
With Hope, a Miracle Happens
Julie, Mike and Chloe placed their hope in Dr. Krivak's hands. A successful businessman and ex-athlete, Mike is reduced to tears when he expresses his and Julie's gratitude for Dr. Krivak. Hope and faith paid off; today Julie and Mike are the proud parents of a beautiful bouncing little boy. Today, Chloe has a chubby baby brother with a perpetual smile and his name is Richard.
Julie and Mike's Goal
Julie and Mike's goal is to raise over $1 million to support ovarian cancer research at the world-class facility right here in Pittsburgh – Magee-Womens Research Institute. Julie and Mike said, "Our hope is that a cure for this devastating disease is discovered during our lifetime."
