Supply Chain Visions kicks off SBA ScaleUp Greater Portland
PORTLAND, Maine, Jan. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- ScaleUp Portland has selected fourteen, high growth potential, small businesses in southern and central Maine as the initial participants in ScaleUp America, a Small Business Administration (SBA) sponsored program which launched in October 2014. The participants will be honored at an event on January 12 in Portland's East Bayside, a hub for start-ups in the food and beverage industry.
The companies accepted to the program were selected based on the success of the founders in forming viable businesses, and their interest in, and capacity for, future growth. The initial participating companies include: Austin Street Brewery, Bitzy Baby, Eucalypt Media, Flowfold, Foundation Brewing, Finest Kind Tea Company, Garbage to Garden, Maine Pure, Kenneally and Co., Liberty Craft Brewing, LoveRocksMe, New England Mobile Showers, Pine Tree Seafood, and Saco River Dyehouse.
The ScaleUp initiative is designed to help companies grow by addressing the barriers to small business growth such as financing, broader access to markets, and human resource development. ScaleUp will also work to strengthen and enhance local entrepreneurial ecosystems which support small business growth. As part of ScaleUp, the participants will benefit from a combination of an executive level program in business, mentoring, and the benefits of interaction with a peer group of entrepreneurs. Greater Portland was selected by the SBA as one of eight regions nationwide for ScaleUp America, an initiative to create the enabling conditions for small business growth.
"We are excited about this opportunity to support the small business community in the Greater Portland area," said Steve Geary, President of Supply Chain Visions Inc. "The SCV team has the experience, tools, and business network required to help the SBA scale up small businesses and stimulate local entrepreneurial ecosystems for growth."
A second group of entrepreneurs will be selected for a follow on program this spring, and we hope to expand beyond Southern Maine in the future.
