Sylvan Learning Centers Aid Sandy Recovery Effort With Free 'Days Of Learning'

Centers in NY and NJ to offer free tutoring to impacted students

Dec 04, 2012, 09:00 ET from Sylvan Learning

BALTIMORE, Md., Dec. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Many students in the New York and New Jersey area have seen their academics impacted because of Hurricane Sandy. To help students catch up on school work, Sylvan Learning centers in the New York and New Jersey region are offering free learning days to children whose school lives were interrupted by the hurricane.

Aptly called, 'Days of Learning' Sylvan centers will offer one hour of free tutoring to students who reserve their spot by calling their local Sylvan center. The offer is open to any non-Sylvan student who reserves a Saturday afternoon spot[i] at a participating center in the New York and New Jersey region on December 8 or December 15, 2012.

"Families can face a range of adverse consequences after disasters like Hurricane Sandy," said Anthony DiGiacomo, executive director, Sylvan Learning of Jersey city. "We should remember that the learning lives of students also suffer in the wake of missed school days and interrupted home lives."

"As a community partner, Sylvan hopes that in a small way our dedicated teachers can give students some of that lost time back with a free hour of personalized tutoring in math or reading," DiGiacomo said.

Parents who would like to schedule a free hour of tutoring for their student should contact one of the Sylvan Learning centers involved in the effort to schedule a time. Hours will differ depending on availability at each center.
