TAAB Announces Launch of Artists Charity with Gala Concert in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Turkish American Artist Bridge, a non-profit charity celebrated its debut with a Gala Concert called "Crossing the Bridge" on September 12, bringing together an array of international musicians and artists from around the world.

Two-time Grammy List Nominee and opera star Dr. Demetra George Mustafaoglu was the evening's honoree and sang favorite arias from La Traviata to Evita. During her distinguished career as a soprano, she has performed for more than 700 orchestras in the U.S. and worldwide and has sung for four U.S. presidents. In recognition of her work promoting cultural ties, she was also recently awarded the Cultural Diplomacy Award by the U.S. Embassy in Cyprus.

"This is the continuation of my commitment and civic service to the Turkish American community and to Turkish-American relations," said Mustafaoglu. "My husband and I have been involved with cultural organizations for 30 years and I am grateful for this recognition."

Mustafaoglu is married to Mike Mustafaoglu, a businessman, Honorary Consul of Northern Cyprus in LA and the first ever Turkish recipient of the U.S. Ellis Island Medal of Honor.

The event also featured opera star and tenor Eduardo Villa who has appeared in leading roles at New York's Metropolitan and European Opera Houses and continues to perform around the world.

Other performances included acclaimed flautist Burak Besir, composer and jazz pianist Emir Isilay, international pianist Dr. Ayse Taspinar, guitarist Dimitris Mahalis, vocalist Vahid Bayat, Professor Wayne Behlendorf, and pop singers Deniz Ahmadinia and Devran Kovacoglu.
