TD Charitable Foundation Contributes $100,000 to Florida Food Banks to Help Meet the Post-Holiday Meal Demand

CHERRY HILL, N.J. and PORTLAND, Maine, Feb. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank^®, donated a total of $100,000 to food banks and shelters throughout Florida to help ease the post-holiday demand for meals.

The donation helps support Florida communities, where the need for food assistance remains high due to significant shortages on food bank and pantry shelves in the new year. According to Feeding America, a nationwide network of food banks, more than 3.1 million people in Florida are food insecure, meaning they do not know where their next meal is coming from.

"Millions of people throughout Florida are still in dire need of food," said Kevin Gillen, Florida Regional President for TD Bank. "Food banks all over the state do a tremendous job providing meals for people in need, and we are proud to make this contribution to help food banks add much needed inventory."

The following food banks and shelters in Florida each received $25,000 contributions:

• Camillus House - Miami
• Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida - Orlando
• Treasure Coast Food Bank - Fort Pierce
• Second Harvest North Florida - Jacksonville
