TeamHealth Announces Dr. Kevin Klauer as Chief Medical Officer, Emergency Medicine
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- TeamHealth Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:TMH), one of the nation's largest providers of outsourced physician staffing solutions for hospitals, announced the appointment of Kevin Klauer, D.O., EJD, FACEP, to the newly developed position of chief medical officer, emergency medicine effective January 1, 2015. Reporting to Miles Snowden, MD, MPH, chief medical officer, TeamHealth, Dr. Klauer will be responsible for providing clinical leadership to TeamHealth's emergency medicine division and its associated physicians and advanced practice clinicians. In addition, he will contribute executive guidance to the company's comprehensive clinical risk management programs and continuing medical education and training programs, as well as support provider recruitment and clinical quality improvement initiatives.

Dr. Klauer has a long and diverse background in the field of emergency medicine. He has been with Emergency Medicine Physicians, Ltd., (EMP) since 1999 and has served their organization in many capacities, including chief medical officer, the director of EMP's Patient Safety Organization and as the director of the Center for Emergency Medical Education. He also served as regional medical director for EMP. Dr. Klauer formerly served as the chair of the Department of Hospital Based Physicians, the chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine and as the assistant medical director for performance improvement for Doctors Hospital, based in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Klauer also served as a member of the Board of Directors for Physicians Specialty Limited Risk Retention Group and the EMP Medical Group Board of Directors. He is an assistant clinical professor at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Klauer also plays an active role with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), serving as an ACEP Council Speaker, two terms as Ohio Chapter ACEP President and medical editor-in-chief of ACEP Now, the organization's monthly publication. Dr. Klauer was recently recognized in Chicago for receiving the ACEP Honorable Mention Outstanding Speaker of the Year Award for 2013/2014. Dr. Klauer is the co-author of two risk management books: "Emergency Medicine Bouncebacks: Medical and Legal and Risk Management" and "The Emergency Department: Executive Leadership for Protecting Patients and Hospitals." He has also received the ACEP National Faculty Teaching Award, the Emergency Medicine Resident's Association Robert Dougherty ACEP/Emergency Medicine Foundation Teaching Fellowship, and most recently was recognized by the Ohio Chapter of ACEP with the Bill Hall Award for service. Dr. Klauer received his D.O. from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, IA, completed an Emergency Medicine Residency at Louisiana State University, Charity Hospital in New Orleans and earned an EJD from Concord Law School in Los Angeles, Calif.
