The Children's Center Receives Top Supplier Award From Detroit Public Schools

Detroit Public Schools recognized top suppliers on December 4th, 2012, during its second annual Top 100 Supplier Conference themed, "Championing Change for Children". Amongst those awarded, The Children's Center emerged as one of the 11 top suppliers recognized for extraordinarily quality services, community collaboration, efficiencies, and cost effectiveness. In addition, The Children's Center's 21st Century Learning Centers Program earned DPS's top recognition for Student Excellence.
"The Procurement & Logistics Office was redesigned last year to focus on quality service, collaboration and cost – not just contracts," said Emergency Financial Manager Roy S. Roberts. "That was a huge change and, in turn, we have seen huge results in only one year."
The Children's Center (TCC) has partnered with Detroit Public Schools for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers, a grant-funded program, for the past 6 years. Serving as many as ten schools in the previous years, TCC is positioned as the lead partnering agency with five schools during the current 2012/2013 school year. In this role, The Children's Center provides administrative oversight and collaboration management between community-based organizations and the schools themselves. These organizations deliver youth development, enrichment, family services, programmatic, instructional and after-school activities to some of the districts most vulnerable students.
The Children's Center's 21st Century Learning Program Highlights:
- Ninety-six percent student participation in academic enrichment activities which exceeds the state-wide comparison of 76%.
- High ratings overall on the qualifications of staff.
- High ratings on providing a safe environment for students.
- Detroit Public Schools Teachers report improvement in 91% of participating TCC served students' behavior exceeding the state-wide average of 74%.
- Detroit Public Schools Teachers report improvement in 90% of participating TCC served students' homework and classroom participation exceeding the state-wide average of 71%.
