The Delta Research And Educational Foundation Seeks 40 Nonprofit Partners To Host Town Hall Advocacy Sessions On Teacher Effectiveness
The Call to Action focuses on expanding community advocacy across the nation to improve educational outcomes for at-risk, urban youth.
WASHINGTON, Nov. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF), partnering with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (DST), is issuing a Call to Action for nonprofit organizations to increase the dialogue around teacher efficacy to improve educational outcomes through their Delta Teacher Efficacy Campaign (DTEC).
The campaign is made possible by a matching grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and is designed to enhance teacher efficacy, particularly in urban areas where disparities continue to exist for disadvantaged student subgroups. DTEC's mission is that "Teachers Believing = Students Achieving".
DREF seeks to collaborate with 40 non-profit organizations that share DREF's mindset that teacher efficacy can be enhanced to strengthen student academic achievement. The 40 organizations that are selected will conduct Town Hall Advocacy Sessions to stimulate dialogue and support teacher effectiveness through enhanced efficacy.
The partnering organizations will be selected from all regions, resulting in 40 sessions across the nation. Some cities have been targeted in the Request for Proposals (RFP), but proposers not located in those cities should also consider a submission and will be considered based upon the evaluation criteria.
The partnering organizations will serve as on-the-ground agents for DREF, logistically facilitating the Town Hall Advocacy Sessions in their communities. DREF will provide a toolkit for implementation, and training for the locally-identified facilitators.
Eligibility: The partnering organizations must be nonprofits that serve in the community and share the perspective of DREF, DST and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for leading change in education, enhancing teacher efficacy, and increasing student achievement.
Deadline: December 19, 2014. Partners will be announced on January 23, 2015.

The Town Hall Advocacy component represents one of the three DTEC focus areas. In addition, DREF will conduct a six-week Teacher Efficacy Academy for teachers in the 40 communities where the nonprofit partners conduct the Town Hall Advocacy Sessions. The 2016 edition of DREF's scholarly journal, PHILLIS: The Journal for Research on African American Women will focus around components of the DTEC.
