NEW YORK, July 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Traveling to a new city can be exhilarating and intimidating at the same time but a warm greeting and friendly smile can put all fears aside when visiting to a new destination. A new poll released by Travelzoo (NASDAQ: TZOO), a global Internet media company, reveals which destinations greet travelers with open arms.

Friendliest U.S. States
When it comes to the East Coast/ West Coast rivalry, the East is the coast with the friendliest states.

Friendliest U.S. Cities
Sometimes referred to as "Paradise of the Pacific", it's no surprise that Honolulu ranks as the friendliest U.S. city. Tropical temperatures and beautiful lei greetings make Honolulu a fan favorite. However, coming in second place for the friendliest U.S. city is a more surprising choice -- New York -- with friendly faces outweighing fast paces in the Big Apple.

The Friendliest International Destinations 
When traveling south of the border, one-quarter of Americans voted Mexico as the friendliest Latin American destination. Across the pond, Italy ranked as the friendliest European destination followed by Ireland, United Kingdom, Spain and the Netherlands rounding out the list. And when asked what the friendliest country is in Asia Pacific, ranking number one was Australia, with more than one-quarter choosing the land Down Under.
