NEW YORK, Sept. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The heyday of the American muscle car was the 1960s to 1970s, defined by such classics as the Pontiac GTO, Dodge Charger, Chevrolet Chevelle SS, Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Corvette, and others. So popular were these high-horsepower V8 machines that they became stars in their own right in TV shows and films – the 1968 Ford Mustang GT 390 driven by Steve McQueen in "Bullitt," the 1969 Dodge Charger in "The Dukes of Hazzard," and the 1977 Pontiac Trans Am in "Smokey and the Bandit," to name just a few. People wanted to own them, be seen with them, and drive them but as time went by they became hard to find, and even harder to afford.

In a new TV series called "The Hunt for Rolling Treasure," three Indiana Jones-type car aficionados venture on a worldwide quest to find the rarest of these automobiles, now worth hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars.

Co-created by Chris Mazzilli, who executive produced and starred in the Emmy Award-winning "Downey's Dream Cars," "The Lost Corvettes," and "Riding Shotgun with Michelle Rodriguez," among others, and Larry Hochberg, the prolific producer whose vast credits include "Pimp My Ride," "The Curse of Oak Island," "Property Wars," and "The Lost Corvettes," the show is produced by Bungalow Media + Entertainment, in conjunction with Dream Car Restorations.

The 10-episode "The Hunt for Rolling Treasure" stars Mazzilli, who also owns Dream Car Restorations on Long Island; Dave Weber, who oversees operations at Dream Car Restorations, and Greg Lotko, an IT executive and burgeoning car collector, who now personally owns many of the cars featured in the show. In fact, Lotko's collection is already worth many millions of dollars.

The cars are being specially detailed and refurbished at Dream Car Restorations. Some are complete ground-up restorations or clean sheet builds, others are being restored to their original condition, and others are being modified to "day two" form, a method that was highly popular back in the day in which a classic car would mimic a showroom-new factory vehicle with added period-correct aftermarket parts. The vision for all the cars, according to Lotko, is that they are driven rather than being museum pieces or tucked away out of sight, never to be seen.

Mazzilli and Lotko are executive producers, together with Robert Friedman and Mike Powers of Bungalow Media + Entertainment, and Weber is the consulting producer. Together, they will host a special premiere showcase for top network and streaming executives on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Fashion Institute of Technology, where Mazzilli is an alumnus. Although they have received an array of offers to carry the show, they are using the showcase to finalize the deals. The powerhouse stand-up comedian and actor Adam Ferrera will be among the special guests in attendance and will host a Q&A with the executive producers and co-stars as part of the showcase.

The real stars at "The Hunt for Rolling Treasure" showcase, though, will be six of the cars featured in the series that will be on display that evening. The cars in the series and showcase are based on what Lotko, Mazzilli, and Weber found while traveling for the rare treasures around North America and beyond, including in Canada, Texas, Las Vegas, Florida, California, Colorado, Indianapolis, Pennsylvania, and New York, as well as what they are seeing in Dream Car Restorations and the personal preferences of Lotko and other collectors. Of note, they were given exclusive permission to film at Mecum Auctions.

The cars that will be featured at the premiere showcase, and their current monetary value, are:

1965 Shelby GT350. One of 562 built. Known as the best road going 1965 GT350 in the world. Current value $1.5 million dollars.
1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 Convertible. One of 29 built. The Holy Grail of Muscle Cars. Current value $800k.
1973 Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty. One of 252 built. An unrestored survivor with only 49,000 original miles. Current value $250k.
1969 Chevrolet COPO Camaro. One of only 1084 built. One of the finest examples in the world. Current value $450k.
1969 Chevrolet Corvette L89 Coupe. One of 390 built. This is an unrestored example with only 29k original miles. Known to be the most optioned 1969 L89 in the world. Current value $250k.
1969 Ford Mustang BOSS 429 with less than 4,500 miles. Known as the best unrestored BOSS 429 in the world. Current value $1.1 million dollars.

"The spirit, mood, and feel of 'Rolling Treasure' evoke the art, energy, and unabashed spirit of freedom captured in car-related 60s and 70s cinema," said Mazzilli, whose love for these cars dates back "for as long as I can remember," whose first owned muscle car was a 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle, and who bought his father a 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS for Father's Day 20 years ago. "We're confident that this look and feel will resonate with our myriad target audiences, whether it triggers their own memories of great times with great cars or inspires younger audiences who look back on this time with a passion for the golden age of great American muscle cars."

Lotko echoed these sentiments, noting that his passion for these iconic cars "coincided with my earliest memories from when I was as young as two years old. My mom told me I was pointing out all the Mustangs on the road, calling out 'Mushtang' before I could speak in complete sentences."

It's the same passion that he says will drive audiences to the new show. "We're creating a series that shows real people buying and driving real cars," explained Lotko, whose first muscle car was a 1972 Chevelle SS he bought for $1800 at age 15; it is now being resto-modded (through which a vintage car is modified by combining traditional factory styling with modern mechanical parts, safety features, and comfort upgrades) by Dream Car Restorations. "More importantly, the series is about building friendships across the country and beyond among car lovers and real people who remember these iconic cars. These weren't simply a form of transportation. They were so much more. They were a personal expression of one's personality, taste, and freedom."

Weber agreed and pointed out that "this show reflects the life I've lived. I was born into an automotive family. My great grandfather owned a body and fender shop in Harlem in the 1920s, and the first muscle car I owned was 1955 Chevy that I found and pushed out of the woods in Little Neck (Long Island) to my home in Great Neck (also on Long Island)."

Each episode in "The Hunt for Rolling Treasure" series will focus on specific rare or interesting cars, their history, how Mazzilli, Weber, and Lotko came to discover their whereabouts and how they negotiated buying the vehicles. The rarest car in the series is a 1970 Chevelle LS6 Convertible, of which only 29 were ever manufactured.
