'The Institute' Recognizes North Carolina's National MBDA Award Winners
DURHAM, N.C., Oct. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Institute has another reason to celebrate the success of its MBDA Business Center, with one of The Institute's clients—Durham-based CrossComm Inc. winning the 2015 Minority Technology Firm of the Year. In September, the U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) announced its 2015 National MED Week Award Winners; 14 organizations, businesses, and individuals who have demonstrated leadership and commitment in advancing the minority business community. Founded in 1998, CrossComm is an app consultancy company that specializes in the conception and implementation of cloud-savvy apps for web, native IOS, and native Android. The award honors the outstanding achievements of minority entrepreneurs based on the challenges the business has overcome, total revenue, jobs created and the economic impact the business has had on its community.
Farad Ali, president and CEO of The Institute, said, "We are proud to congratulate Mr. Don Shin and the CrossComm team for this amazing accomplishment. This national award and recognition is further validation of the significant work that we do at The Institute through our Minority Business Development center. Within the past few years, Andrea Harris—director of The Institute's Policy Center—has received the MBDA Lifetime Achievement Award, and one of our local clients, MetCon, within three years has twice won recognition as National Construction Company of the Year."
MBDA is the only federal agency solely dedicated to the growth and global competitiveness of U.S. minority-owned businesses. MBDA has led the national Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week program for more than 30 years; convening business leaders, honoring outstanding MBEs and advocates, promoting business opportunities, and reporting industry trends. This year's awards reception will take place at the 2015 National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) conference and Business Opportunity Exchange on Oct. 20 in San Diego.
