The National Archives of The United Kingdom Launches Critical Discovery Service Using Neuron-ESB

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Neudesic has announced the release of a new case study for the company's Neuron-ESB product, detailing work completed for The National Archives of the United Kingdom, one of the world's largest records repositories, holding more than 11 million records, spanning the Magna Carta to modern government papers.

An online catalogue of The National Archives' collection was launched in 1998, and since then, the catalogue has more than doubled in size. To manage the collection, the organization has designed and implemented a number of home-grown systems to improve the accessibility and maintenance of its growing collection.

In 2010, The National Archives decided to move to a standardized Service Oriented Architecture framework to reduce maintenance costs and provide the flexibility to add new services in the future.  They selected Neuron-ESB from Neudesic to build the platform for a discovery service that would enable both internal and external customers to quickly access online information.

"We looked at a range of commercial products, but found that it would take too long to implement them for this project," said Aleksandr Drozdov, Enterprise Architect, The National Archives. "We also explored open source solutions, but there were just too many issues around maintenance, support and capabilities, including for WCF, and many of them are made for Java users – not what we needed in our organization.
