The Union League Club of Chicago Now Accepting Nominations For Annual Democracy In Action Award
Award Honors Illinois High School Students Who Demonstrate Exemplary Citizenship and Leadership in Their Community
CHICAGO, March 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Union League Club of Chicago's Public Affairs Committee is pleased to announce a statewide, open call for nominations for the Club's annual Democracy In Action Award (DIAA) now through May 12, 2017. The Democracy in Action Award is presented annually to Illinois high school juniors or seniors and recognizes a young person whose actions reflect an understanding of and commitment to the principles of democracy and whose efforts have advanced civic involvement by young people.
Eligible candidates must be Illinois residents and must be enrolled as juniors or seniors in a public or private Illinois high school during the 2017 school year. Nominations must be submitted and signed by two faculty members of the high school with direct knowledge of the nominee's achievements and/or leadership in the community. The nomination form is available for download on the Union League Club of Chicago's (ULCC) website, along with submission instructions: https://www.ulcc.org/files/DIAA%202017%20Nomination%20Form.pdf.
An appointed panel of judges will evaluate each nomination and select the honorees. Honorees will be notified by Tuesday, May 23, 2017.
The first place honoree and his/her parent(s) or guardian(s) will be invited to the ULCC's Annual Meeting on June 6, 2017 to accept their award and a cash award of no less than $1,500. Second place, third place and honorable mention honorees may also be designated. Each student nominated will receive a formal Certificate of Recognition for their achievements in civic involvement.
