Mr. Fay will work closely with the ThinkCure! board of directors to realize its goal to help children and adults overcome cancer.
Until last month, Joe was the Executive Director of the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation in New York. He has worked for over twenty years in the non-profit sector and held leadership positions in marketing and fundraising at the national offices of the American Red Cross, American Lung Association, and Reading Is Fundamental. He has chaired the American Marketing Association's Non-Profit Marketing Conference and taught non-profit marketing at Georgetown University. He graduated from Boston College and received an MBA from Columbia University, and he served as a U.S. Naval Officer following college.
Dr. Stephen J. Forman, ThinkCure! board member and Director, Department of Hematology at City of Hope, expressed the board's enthusiasm for Mr. Fay's arrival. "We are delighted to have Joe join us. We know that ThinkCure! can generate substantial support for collaborative cancer research funding right here in Los Angeles. We have already seen how this kind of research can profoundly impact our fight against cancer. Joe has precisely the experience and expertise we need in an Executive Director. As our partner, he will help ThinkCure! realize its true potential for adults and children suffering from this disease."
Mr. Fay said, "Cancer research increasingly demands collaborative research among institutions, and City of Hope and Children's Hospital are doing world-class collaborative cancer research right here in Los Angeles. Southern California is home to an impressive array of medical researchers and institutions focusing on cancer, and experience tells us that donors prefer to support local charitable initiatives. I look forward to working with ThinkCure's impressive board and dedicated employees who are committed to benefitting both the people of Los Angeles and the world for generations to come."
Dr. Susan L. Weiner, Vice Chair of the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation (CBTF) board and nationally recognized advocate for children with cancer and their families, noted, "Joe altered CBTF's trajectory, turning our group into a truly national organization and expanding our support and research programs. Joe worked collaboratively with board, staff and partner organizations to develop and secure funds for the unique Children's Brain Tumor Tissue Consortium and a nationwide Parent 2 Parent Network. He implemented new fundraising strategies and created a vigorous social media presence. He will be sorely missed at CBTF, but we wish him tremendous success as he joins the accomplished staff of ThinkCure!"
