Top 10 Activist Hotspots In Tri-State Area
DATA FROM CARE2 - THE LARGEST COMMUNITY FOR GOOD - REVEALS MOST ACTIVE COMMUNITIES
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Feb. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Care2, the petition site, announced its first ever Top 10 Activist Communities list for the tri-state area, which reveals the communities home to people who sign the most online petitions per capita. Care2 analyzed data for over 150 million signatures from its 33 million member social network.
The Top Ten communities are home to the most engaged, passionate individuals standing up for their rights, as well as for the welfare of individuals, animals and the environment around the world. Tri-state area petitions have covered a range of topics including reopening Brooklyn Banks public space, saving a New Jersey bear, helping Grace, a deer with an arrow in her face, stopping seismic testing off the coast, and much more.
The Tri-State Area Activism Map shows hotbeds for activism spread throughout the tri-state area, with Stockholm, New Jersey taking the top spot. The most active area in New York City was Battery Park followed by Times Square/Hell's Kitchen and Chelsea.

"We applaud these communities for their outstanding commitment to speaking up for causes they believe in," Care2 CEO Randy Paynter said. "Civic engagement is the foundation for a healthy democracy. In this election year, it's important to remember that 'We the People' really do have the power, but only when we take action. Citizens in these communities know that extraordinary things happen when people who care take action together."
Care2 releases these findings in advance of the introduction of a hyper local platform, Care2 Local Petitions, in early February. This first-of-its-kind platform is designed to help community activists create more impact at a local level.
Online petitions have become a cornerstone of civic engagement and advocacy, exploding in popularity by getting results while governments remain deadlocked. Care2 represents the largest online community for good – helping people start online petitions and support each other's campaigns.
Care2 members start and sign thousands of petitions each month on topics ranging from local school and traffic concerns, to cyber bulling, women's rights, and animal welfare, such as the Care2 petition that sparked an international uproar over the killing of Cecil the lion.
